Red Sox Predicted To Land $108 Million Ace In Blockbuster Offseason Trade

The Boston Red Sox have put together quite an exciting postseason, though they don’t have as much to show for it as they should.

The Red Sox have brought in Garrett Crochet and Walker Buehler to anchor the rotation, but they shouldn’t be done there.

Christopher Kline of FanSided recently predicted the Red Sox would pursue a blockbuster trade for San Diego Padres ace Dylan Cease. Cease is on an expiring contract, but Spotrac projects him to sign for $108 million next offseason.

“There’s still room for the Red Sox to improve, though, especially with the Yankees operating so aggressively in free agency,” Kline wrote. “The AL East is wide-open after Juan Soto’s departure, but the Red Sox have perhaps the most ground to make up. The return of Lucas Giolito in 2025 will help, but Cease would take the Red Sox’s rotation to the next level.

“All of a sudden, Boston has two potential Cy Young candidates to lead the way — and two of MLB’s most dominant arms. Both Cease and Crochet pack a major punch in the strikeout department. Whereas Crochet has some real durability concerns, Cease is among the most dependable workhorses in baseball.”

If any team in baseball has the pieces to comfortably swing a trade for Cease, it’s the Red Sox.

Boston has one of the best farm systems in the game as well as a lot of expendable talent at the big league level. The Red Sox haven’t spent much money, so it wouldn’t be a shock to see them sign a player like Anthony Santander or Alex Bregman this winter.

Acquiring Cease would be the icing on the cake. The Red Sox have the money to successfully extend him if all things go well, too.
