Music streams hit nearly 5 trillion in 2024. Women pop performers lead the charge in the US! Will Taylor Swift dominate the charts?

More music, more listeners, no problems.

The global music industry hit 4.8 trillion streams in 2024, a new single-year record, Luminate’s 2024 Year-End Report found. That’s up 14% from 2023, which held the previous record.

If you streamed a lot more music in 2024 — and in particular, a lot of women pop performers — you are not alone.

In the U.S., on-demand audio streams grew at a rate of 6.4%, totaling 1.4 trillion.

Contemporary music is fueling the growth. The overwhelming majority of U.S. plays – 79.5% — were from songs released in 2010 or later. Songs released between 2020 and 2024 accounted for nearly half of all streams.

And Taylor Swift, 2024’s most-streamed songwriter worldwide, is only partially responsible.

Pop rules

Midway through 2024, Luminate determined that Latin music had become the fastest growing streaming genre in the United States — up 15.1% from summer 2023 — followed by pop, rock and country.

A lot can change in half a year, because now pop leads, followed by rock and Latin.

“We saw some interesting trends within the U.S.,” said Jaime Marconette, Luminate’s vice president of music insights and industry relations.

“Latin was the fastest-growing U.S. streaming genre in the first half of the year based on growth of genre streaming share. However, due to a shift of streaming activity in the second half of the year, pop took the No. 1 spot … Female solo artists led this surge in pop consumption, as streams of their music were responsible for nearly two-thirds of all audio streams amongst the top 100 pop artists in the U.S.”

The shift is led by six women who dominated pop’s streams in the U.S.:

1. Taylor Swift with 12.8 billion streams

2. Billie Eilish with 4.46 billion

3. Sabrina Carpenter with 3.71 billion

4. Ariana Grande with 3.12 billion

5. Olivia Rodrigo with 2.76 billion

6. Chappell Roan with 2.49 billion

That’s at least partially reflected in the top 10 global streaming songs as well:

1. Benson Boone’s “Beautiful Things”

2. Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso”

3. Billie Eilish’s “Birds of a Father”

4. Teddy Swims’ “Lose Control”

5. Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars,” “Die with a Smile”

6. FloyyMenor, “Gata Only”

7. Shaboozey, “A Bar Song (Tipsy)”

8. Hozier, “Too Sweet”

9. Taylor Swift, “Cruel Summer”

10. Sabrina Carpenter, “Please Please Please”

Regional Mexican music continues to grow

Even if pop has replaced Latin music as the fastest growing streaming genre in the U.S., the music is not slowing down in popularity. In 2024, regional Mexican music overtook Latin pop as the largest Latin subgenre in the U.S.

“Latin still grew by both volume and its share of total U.S. audio streaming during the course of 2024,” Marconette said. “When looking at Latin subgenre activity, Regional Mexican dominated in terms of growth.”

Regional Mexican music — a catchall term that encompasses mariachi, banda, corridos, norteño, sierreño and other genres — has become a global phenomenon over the last few years, topping music charts and reaching new audiences as it crosses borders.

The genre reached 28.57 billion streams in 2024, followed by Latin pop with 24.09 billion.

Rap and R&B are forever

Pop rules, but just like 2023, when it comes to overall music streaming in the U.S., R&B and hip-hop still lead, accounting for more than one in every four streams stateside.

In 2024: Rap and R&B accounted for 341.63 billion on-demand audio streams, followed by rock with 234.22 billion, pop with 165.49 billion, country with 117.58 billion and Latin with 113.02 billion.

Hold onto your fascinators and tighten those bow ties, because the 2025 Kentucky Derby just went from stylish to scandalously sweet. In an unexpected turn of events that has fans across the globe spiraling into full meltdown mode, pop superstar Taylor Swift and NFL tight end Travis Kelce were spotted arm in arm at Churchill Downs—and they weren’t just watching the races. The pair, known for keeping their high-profile relationship relatively under wraps, made a rare and jaw-dropping public appearance at the legendary horse racing event on Saturday. Dressed to the nines in traditional Derby chic, the couple looked absolutely radiant—smiling, laughing, and turning every camera in their direction. But what really has fans losing their minds isn’t just the fact that they showed up together… it’s what the photos appear to reveal. Yes, the internet is convinced Taylor Swift is sporting a subtle baby bump—AND an engagement ring. Let’s rewind. Kelce, in a custom navy three-piece suit and white cowboy hat, and Swift, glowing in a pale blue floral dress and matching headpiece, arrived via a private entrance shortly before the first race. Despite efforts to keep a low profile, they were quickly spotted by attendees—and within minutes, the world was watching. Photos and videos flooded social media. In several, Travis is seen placing a gentle hand on Taylor’s midsection, a move many fans took as a not-so-subtle gesture. In others, Swift appears to rest her hand affectionately on his chest—and the sparkle on her left ring finger could practically blind a thoroughbred. Naturally, Swifties and NFL fans alike went into full detective mode. “IS THAT A BABY BUMP???” wrote one X (formerly Twitter) user, racking up over 5 million views in under an hour. Another posted a zoomed-in shot of Taylor’s hand with the caption, “THAT’S A ROCK. ENGAGED & EXPECTING? THE ERA TOUR BABY IS REAL!” Of course, the couple has remained famously tight-lipped about their relationship, despite going public in late 2023. Since then, they’ve been spotted at a handful of Chiefs games, a few Eras Tour stops, and even a couple of low-key date nights. But this is the first time they’ve appeared this visibly affectionate—and in such a high-profile setting. Adding fuel to the fire, a source close to the couple (who chose to remain anonymous, of course) told a tabloid: “They’ve been planning this soft launch for months. They knew the Derby would be a moment. They’re not hiding anymore.” Fans at the Derby were quick to share their reactions.“I came here for horses, I left with heart palpitations,” said one woman who managed to snap a blurry selfie with the couple in the background. “Taylor looked so happy. Like, glowing. Literally glowing.” Others pointed out the strategic brilliance of the reveal. “This is so Taylor-coded. She drops Easter eggs in lyrics and now she’s dropping them at sporting events,” joked one fan on TikTok….

Travis Kelce releases a book about his love for pop star Taylor Swift: when they were attracted to each other, how they flirted, how they started confessing their feelings, and the remarkable stages of their relationship

In a move no one saw coming, but everyone’s talking about, NFL star Travis Kelce has just released a bombshell memoir titled “Catching Her Heart: My Love Story with Taylor Swift”—and it’s already sending shockwaves through both the sports and pop music worlds. The book, which dropped without warning this morning, is a deeply personal, emotionally charged account of how Kelce fell in love with the world’s biggest pop star, Taylor Swift. In its pages, he reveals everything fans have been dying to know—from the first spark of attraction, to flirtation, confessions, and the extraordinary stages of their whirlwind relationship. “I Never Expected Her to Notice Me—Until She Did” In the first chapter, Kelce takes readers back to the summer of 2023, when he famously attended the Eras Tour with the hopes of meeting Swift backstage. “I made a friendship bracelet with my number on it. Cheesy? Definitely. But I had to shoot my shot,” Kelce writes. To his surprise, Taylor didn’t meet him that night—but the gesture stuck with her. “She later told me she saw the clip of me talking about it. She thought it was bold. A little ridiculous. But kind of adorable,” he shares with refreshing honesty. “That was the spark.” Flirting in Plain Sight The second part of the book dives into what Kelce calls “the playful months”—a period where the two flirted through mutual friends, Instagram likes, and subtle lyrics. “She started slipping little football references into her songs during soundcheck,” Kelce claims. “I’d catch them and just laugh. I’d text her like, ‘You trying to drive me crazy out here?’ She always replied with a winking emoji.” Fans now believe several previously unexplained “mystery lyrics” from Swift’s 2024 deluxe album Midnights: Touchdown Edition were actually written about Kelce during this flirtation stage. Confessions and Clarity In one of the book’s most intimate chapters, Kelce describes the night they finally confessed their feelings. “It wasn’t some big glamorous night in New York or L.A.,” he writes. “It was on her couch, barefoot, with a bowl of popcorn between us. She looked at me and said,…
