REPORT: Chiefs’ Andy Reid Reveals Reason for Making Hunt Captain vs. Raiders

The Kansas City Chiefs are 7-0 and have a strong lead in the AFC West after their win against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Andy Reid Reveals KC Chiefs Left Tackle Plan, Kareem Hunt Status vs. Atlanta Falcons

While the offense hasn’t necessarily lived up to the expectations of past seasons, especially Patrick Mahomes, who has thrown more interceptions than touchdowns, they’ve still had some consistent performances from other parts of the offense.

One of those consistent performers has been running back Kareem Hunt, who was brought up to the active roster prior to Week 5.

Hunt has scored at least one touchdown in each of his last three starts at running back, and has run for over 50 yards in all of his appearances.

In just his fourth game with the team this season, the Chiefs made the decision to make Hunt a captain against the Raiders. Following the game, coach Andy Reid discussed the decision.

“Yeah, you know, he was in that class with Patrick (Mahomes) and it’s almost like he kind of never left,” Reid said.

“That’s how I think the guys that have been here see that, and then the guys that haven’t been here have always heard about Kareem and the guys talking about him. He has that veteran leadership ability [and] runs tough. He’s been welcomed back as if he hadn’t left.

That’s why we felt comfortable doing that.”

He was released by Kansas City in 2018, but was brought back earlier this season after starting running back Isiah Pacheco went down with a foot injury.
