Brittany and Patrick Mahomes are reportedly trying to bring another prominent professional sports franchise to Kansas City.
Patrick Mahomes has become the biggest name in Kansas City sports, leading the team to three Super Bowl championships over the last five seasons. Patrick and Brittany are co-owners of the Kansas City Royals (MLB) and the Kansas City Current (NWSL), and the former has a stake in Sporting Kansas City (MLS).
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Patrick and Brittany have spoken with the WNBA about bringing an expansion franchise to Kansas City. The league will welcome the Golden State Valkyries in 2025 and two new expansion franchises from Toronto and Portland (team names to be announced) in 2026.
The WNBA finished its final season as a 12-team league this month. There are six teams in each of its two divisions, the East and West.
Patrick Mahomes’ Chiefs, the Royals, Sporting Kansas City and the Kansas City Current are the four professional sports teams based in the KC metropolitan area. The NBA’s Sacramento Kings played in Kansas City from 1972 to ’85 before relocating.
Additionally, the NHL’s New Jersey Devils started out in Kansas City as the Scouts (1974-76) before relocating to Colorado. After six seasons in Denver, the franchise was relocated to New Jersey in 1982.

They’ll try to remain perfect with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers coming to town next Monday.
