BREAKING: Celtics Have a Chance to Reunite With Veteran Forward at the Trade Deadline

By

The Boston Celtics are going through a minor slump in recent weeks. After a disappointing home loss to the Sacramento Kings on Friday, they barely beat the 8-32 Pelicans on Sunday. While they are certainly not playing their best basketball, it’s still important to note that the Celtics are 28-11 and have the third-best record in the NBA.

Even though the Celtics are not looking as dominant in the regular season as fans had hoped, they will likely not make a major move at the February 6 trade deadline.

One deal that they are expected to make is to trade Jaden Springer. The 22-year-old shooting guard hasn’t been able to crack the rotation in Boston ever since he was acquired from Philadelphia last season. He is on a $4 million expiring contract and because the Celtics are one of the most expensive teams in the NBA and are above the second apron, it behooves them to trade him for financial savings.

Due to their second apron limitations, the Celtics can only get back a player who makes less money than Springer. Brian Robb of MassLive has the perfect suggestion for that player. He identified Pelicans forward and former Celtic Javonte Green as a potential trade target.

Green makes $2 million this season, giving the Celtics ownership much-needed savings. Plus, he adds veteran competence, physicality, and defensive intensity to a team that can lack it at times.

The 31-year-old wing spent the first 1.5 seasons of his NBA career in Boston, appearing in 73 games and playing over 11 minutes per game. His defensive versatility and ability to guard multiple positions could come in handy for the Celtics, who are not as deep on the wing as they are in the backcourt and big-man rotation.
