Arsenal Shows Strong Interest in Signing £46m South American Defender, Ready to Make Competitive Bid – Report

According to reports, Arsenal has expressed considerable interest in signing a South American player priced at £46 million and is ready to place a strong offer.

Reports indicate that Arsenal is keen on securing a South American star worth £46 million and is willing to submit a robust bid.

Arsenal is keen on acquiring Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo during this transfer window.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the Gunners are ‘very interested’ in bolstering their defense by targeting one of Barcelona’s top defenders amid a challenging Premier League season, where they currently trail leaders Liverpool by six points, with Liverpool holding a game in hand.

While the team has struggled at times in the attacking front, there is a pressing need to secure a new forward before the winter transfer deadline.

However, Mundo Deportivo suggests that Arsenal’s focus may be shifting towards enhancing their defensive lineup with the addition of Ronald Araujo.

Araujo recently returned from a hamstring injury and has been gradually reintegrated into the squad, having started in the Copa del Rey match against Barbastro after being on the bench for the initial three games.

The defender is reportedly concerned about his playing time, as Pau Cubarsi and Inigo Martinez have been favored by manager Hansi Flick in league matches.

Additionally, Arsenal is exploring a free transfer for Jonathan Tah, which could further influence Araujo’s decision.

Juventus has already initiated a loan offer with an obligation to buy, but Arsenal is also eager to secure Araujo’s services and is ‘willing to bid strongly’ for him.

Barcelona has yet to persuade Araujo to extend his contract, which is set to expire in June 2026, and they are open to selling him should he choose to leave.

Araujo’s potential move to Arsenal would be unexpected, as he has just come back from a significant injury.

The 25-year-old is weighing his options, given that he no longer has a guaranteed starting position at Barcelona.

While Arsenal is listed among his potential suitors, it would be surprising if they made a formal approach, especially since they currently rely on William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes as their primary central defenders in both Premier League and Champions League matches, with Jakub Kiwior serving as the immediate backup.

Kiwior has been associated with a potential departure from the Emirates Stadium, with rumors suggesting a possible return to Serie A, where Napoli is among his key admirers.

Should Arsenal decide to allow his transfer, they would likely need to find a suitable replacement.

Araujo would be an excellent addition, although Arsenal must consider his history of injuries. The Uruguayan has experienced multiple minor injuries during his tenure at Barcelona.

With reduced playing time behind Saliba and Gabriel, he might mitigate his injury risks, but the critical question remains whether he would be willing to leave Barcelona for a similar role at Arsenal.

Araujo is also capable of playing as a right-back, but he would encounter comparable competition. Currently, Jurrien Timber holds that position, and Ben White is expected to return to the squad soon.

It appears that the ongoing speculation may be driven by his agent to facilitate negotiations with Juventus.

The player, valued at £46 million, is likely to make a move to Turin, where he could secure a regular starting position under manager Thiago Motta. Juventus is keen to address the gap created by Gleison Bremer’s injury.
