Kansas City Chiefs GM Brett Veach officially has an eye toward the future with the team’s first wave of reserve/future contracts for the 2025 NFL season.
According to the NFL’s personnel notice for Thursday, the team signed two players to reserve/future contracts, their first of the season. If you’re unfamiliar with this type of contract, players who sign reserve/future deals won’t officially join the team until the new league year begins in March. They won’t get an opportunity to join the team in their postseason quest for Super Bowl LIX, but they’ll get a chance to make their case in the 2025 NFL offseason.
While no outside reserve/future signings made the team in 2024, players like Keith Taylor, Montrell Washington, and others have stuck around in Kansas City. They’ll have a chance to make their case in the offseason.
So who exactly did the Chiefs land this time around? Two players on the defensive side of the ball were former draft picks from respective NFL teams. Let’s dive in.
Chiefs sign LB Shaun Bradley, DB Jason Taylor II to reserve/future deals
Bradley is a former sixth-round draft pick out of Temple by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2020. He played in 45 career NFL games across three seasons with the Eagles, only starting a single game. He mostly played on special teams for Philly. Listed at 6-foot-1 and 235 pounds, he makes sense as a weakside linebacker in the K.C. defense. The 27-year-old did not play against the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII because he suffered a season-ending wrist injury.
Taylor is a player that the Chiefs have had their eye on for a few seasons now. He was drafted in the seventh round by the Los Angeles Rams in 2023. Brett Veach brought the 25-year-old to Kansas City on a pre-draft visit after he became the Big 12 interception leader at Oklahoma State. Despite the coincidence, the 5-foot-11 and 208-pound defensive back is not related to Pro Football Hall of Famer, who played defensive end/rush linebacker for the Miami Dolphins.
