The Kansas City Chiefs avoided having their Week 18 regular season finale against the Denver Broncos postponed by the NFL after a winter storm made travel dicey on Saturday.
The Chiefs’ team plane finally took off for Colorado just before 7 p.m. ET after a four-hour delay on the tarmac at Kansas City International Airport (MCI) due to “rapid ice accumulation.”
The team had plans to depart earlier in the day, despite fans questioning the organization on social media. Reporting from Fox4 News’ Harold Kuntz and others confirmed that the plane the Chiefs rode on was also delayed in its arrival to the Kansas City airport.
The team landed safely on Saturday evening following the approximate two-hour flight to Denver. Minutes later, the team’s social media staff posted the first video of players walking off the plane.
“Touched down in Denver,” the Chiefs’ X account captioned the video, which showed quarterback Patrick Mahomes walking down the stairs with a pair of bags.
