Since Derrick White joined the Boston Celtics, the team has been able to bank on his three-point shooting. In crunch time Thursday night, White literally banked in a huge shot.

White banked a three-pointer in off the glass with two minutes left in the Celtics’ 118-115 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves. The shot gave Boston an eight-point lead, which ended up being crucial when the Celtics failed to score again. They had to sweat out the win until Anthony Edwards missed a potential game-tying three-pointer at the buzzer.

The 30-year-old guard led the Celtics with 13 points in the final quarter, scoring 26 for the game. White won a gold medal at the Olympics last summer, but now he’s making a serious push for his first All-Star berth.
He’s averaging career highs in points (17.1) and three-pointers (3.5 per game) while continuing to play the kind of defense that got him on the All-Defensive team last season, blocking 1.2 shots and getting a steal per game.
Jaylen Brown has been an All-Star in the past, but against the Wolves, White showed he can pick up the scoring slack when Brown is out. In a month, he may be able to call himself an All-Star, even though we doubt that on his big shot, White called bank.
