‘That Day Will Come!’ Chiefs Reveal Andy Reid Retirement Timeline

Kansas City Chiefs owner Clark Hunt discusses the possibility of coach Andy Reid’s retirement in the near future.

The Kansas City Chiefs remain the league’s only undefeated team heading into Week 9 with a 7-0 record.

With a chance to become the first team in NFL history to win three straight Super Bowls, the Chiefs have not shown any signs of slowing down, especially on defense. However, at 66 years old, coach Andy Reid is certainly not getting any younger.

Plenty of fans have wondered if Reid could be close to calling it quits, especially since he already has three Super Bowls on his resume and will likely be considered one of the greatest coaches of all time when he does decide to retire.

However, in an interview with insider Jeremy Fowler, Chiefs owner Clark Hunt seems to believe that Kansas City’s recent success has only made Reid want to coach longer.

“He certainly seems rejuvenated, I would say, by the success of the team in the last few years and having one of the most special quarterbacks of all time,” Hunt said. “I have no sense that he has any interest in retiring any time soon, which is fantastic. But I think any leader needs to be thinking about succession. … Eventually that day will come.”

While Reid may want to continue coaching for the foreseeable future, there are plenty of other complications that need to be considered at his age, and as Hunt notes, finding a successor is still important.

Regardless, there are still plenty of games left in the 2024 season, so retirement likely won’t be brought up any time soon.
