SHOCKING: Former Chief Kicked to Curb by New Team Ahead of Week 9

Former Kansas City RB La’Mical Perine was cut by the Pittsburgh Steelers on Tuesday.
Aug 26, 2023; Kansas City, Missouri, USA; Kansas City Chiefs running back La'Mical Perine (29) runs the ball against the Cleveland Browns during the game at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.

Veteran running back La’Mical Perine has bounced around the league over the last several months after being released by the Kansas City Chiefs in May.

Perine was signed to Kansas City’s practice squad in Jan. 2023 after the Miami Dolphins released him.

The former New York Jets running back appeared in three games with the Chiefs last season, rushing for 77 yards on 22 carries.

He also added three receptions (five targets) for 33 yards.

After his stint with the Chiefs, Perine was picked up by the Pittsburgh Steelers.

However, the Steelers cut the former Florida running back ahead of the 53-man roster deadline in August.

The 26-year-old Perine wasn’t a free agent for long as the Green Bay Packers signed him to their practice squad a few days later.

The Packers eventually parted ways with Perine on Sept. 10 and was re-signed by the Steelers at the beginning of October.

However, the former Chief will try to find a new opportunity again after the latest roster moves from the Steelers. According to ESPN’s Brooke Pryor, Pittsburgh terminated Perine’s practice squad contract.

The veteran running back did not get any playing time in his second stint with the Steelers. It’s been a tough start to Perine’s NFL career as he’s been with multiple teams since getting drafted in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

He will likely not return to the Chiefs anytime soon as all their practice spots are filled. Kansas City has two running backs (Emani Bailey and Keaontay Ingram) on their taxi squad.
