Report: Bulls sign G-League standout to two-way contract

The Chicago Bulls are on the heels of a disappointing 141-133 loss at the hands of the Atlanta Hawks. The Trae Young-led squad dropped an insurmountable 50 points in the final frame to pull off an incredible 21-point comeback.

The Bulls had already defeated the Hawks twice this season before dropping the third game of the series in Atlanta. Chicago faced off against the Hawks without several key backcourt contributors, including Josh Giddey, Ayo Dosunmu, and Lonzo Ball.

The following morning, it was reported that the Bulls had made a move to improve the roster. While not as significant as trading former All-Stars Zach LaVine or Nikola Vucevic or sending Lonzo Ball or Torrey Craig in a corresponding deal, Chicago dipped into the G-League to add an intriguing young forward to a two-way contract.

Chicago signed former TCU forward Emanuel Miller to a two-way contract

According to ESPN’s Jamal Collier, the Bulls signed former TCU Horned Frog Emanuel Miller to a two-way contract. The 6-foot-7 forward played five collegiate seasons, splitting his time between the Texas A&M Aggies and TCU Horned Frogs.

Following an impressive sophomore campaign in College Station, Miller transferred to TCU. Throughout his career in Fort Worth, the 24-year-old averaged 12.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game. Miller’s scoring averages increased in every season from his junior year to his graduate year.

The two-way wing averaged 15.8 points as a graduate senior while showing off an improved three-ball, converting 38.3 percent of his 2.4 attempts per game. After his collegiate career, Miller caught on with the Dallas Mavericks and impressed in the Summer League. He averaged 7.8 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 2.0 steals in 21.8 minutes of action for the Mavs’ summer squad.

Despite not earning a two-way deal with Dallas, the Mavericks kept Miller on their G-League affiliate, the Texas Legends. Through 16 appearances, the former Horned Frog averaged 18.2 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 2.2 three-pointers per game.

Miller brings an added toughness to a Bulls squad in need of versatile, physical, two-way forwards. Miller is an above-average athlete who excels off-ball as a cutter and spot-up shooter. Furthermore, the 24-year-old is a terrific offensive rebounder and nifty interior scorer. At 6-foot-7, Miller is likely to suit up at both forward spots while playing spot minutes at the five.

Signing Miller to a two-way deal will incur repercussions. The Bulls’ two-way slots are filled, as E.J. Liddell, Adama Sanogo, and D.J. Steward occupy the three spots. Thus, one of the three two-way signees will subsequently be released in the coming hours.
