NBA Christmas Day delivered in full force, headlined by the primetime showdown between the Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors-one matchup that never fails to deliver when LeBron James and Stephen Curry are involved.
The game concluded with a game-winning layup from Austin Reaves, who gave the Lakers a 115-113 lead with one second remaining.
The two shots before that came from Curry, who hit back-to-back three-pointers to tie the game, nearly willing Golden State back into the contest.
Ultimately, it was the most captivating matchup of Christmas Day, and the viewership numbers reflected that.
ESPN reported that the Lakers-Warriors game drew 7.7 million viewers, making it the most-watched NBA regular-season game since 2019. NBA action on ESPN platforms delivered the most-watched Christmas in FIVE YEARS 84% from last year #LakeShow vs. #DubNation (7.7M), most-watched NBA reg. season game since 2019 Season-to-date viewership up 4%
Both put on remarkable performances, becoming the only two players aged 35 or older to score 30+ points on Christmas Day.
James will turn 40 on Dec. 30, while Curry, at 35, recently acknowledged in an interview that he recognizes the end of his illustrious career is approaching-just as James has.
Yet, both continue to play at an elite level. Wednesday’s game was another testament to why these two superstars are future Hall of Famers and why the NBA can always count on them-and their teams-to deliver on the national stage.
