Stephen Curry Unveils $950 Bourbon Honoring Both His and Dad Dell’s 16 Years in the NBA

“My pops set – and raised – the bar for us growing up,” Stephen, who is currently in his 16th season with the Golden State Warriors, said

Stephen Curry has found a special way to celebrate his 16th season in the NBA.

On Monday, Dec. 16, Stephen’s liquor company, Gentleman’s Cut, released a $950 16-year-old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, branded Player Exclusive: Father and Son Edition, to mark the incredible achievement.

The milestone means a lot to Stephen, 36, particularly because his dad, Wardell “Dell” Curry Sr., who is one of the most respected NBA veterans, also spent 16 seasons in the league. “My pops set – and raised – the bar for us growing up, which makes this season that much more meaningful and special for our family,” Stephen said in a press release shared with PEOPLE.

“To commemorate the year, we’ve bottled this unique ‘Father and Son’ edition of Gentleman’s Cut, honoring the example my dad set for our family both on and off the court,” he added.

Stephen has spent 16 years playing for the Golden State Warriors after he was drafted in 2009, while his father Dell, 60, played for multiple teams during his time on the court.

From 1986 until 2002, Dell played for five teams in the NBA including the Utah Jazz, Cleveland Cavaliers, Milwaukee Bucks and Toronto Raptors. Most notably, he was a star guard on the Charlotte Hornets for 10 seasons.

Per the release, Stephen’s 100 proof bourbon “began distillation in August 2008 with a mashbill of 75 percent corn, 13 percent rye and 12 percent malted barley.”

“The result is a delectable bourbon with notes of sweetness, spiciness, and smoke. An intense profile of dried cherries and caramelized elements jumps out of the glass, and as you delve into the drink, a nuanced hint of fine tobacco leaf can be tasted as it lends a warm earthy feel to the bourbon,” the description stated.

“Just like so many others, I consider my father to be one of the greatest,” Stephen said, per the release. “Growing up, my father was an amazing role model to me; he showed me what it means to be a hard worker, have a solid work ethic, and give it your all.”

“I’ve always looked up to him and admired his work ethic and skills so to be able to achieve a milestone that he also accomplished is an amazing feeling. I wanted to bottle this amazing feeling, and share it with the world, and the result was a delectable combination of flavors that came together through the Player Exclusive: Father and Son Edition,” the NBA star continued.

In a statement, Dell said of his son’s company, “Gentleman’s Cut has always been at the forefront of celebratory moments for Stephen and our family, so to be able to release a limited edition bourbon inspired by our time in the NBA is a blessing.”

“I’m so proud of everything he has accomplished, and Gentleman’s Cut Players Exclusive: Father and Son edition is a testament to that,” he added.

The special limited-edition bourbon is available to members of the Gentleman’s Cut mailing list, as well as through select trade accounts in multiple states with a retail price of $950 (a typical bottle of Gentlemen’s Cut whiskey appears to go for $80 or more).
