The Kansas City Chiefs will attempt to clinch the No. 1 seed in the AFC when they host the Houston Texans on Saturday.

Ahead of the matchup against two division winners in the AFC, the Chiefs are dealing with injuries at multiple crucial offensive positions, including quarterback.

Patrick Mahomes suffered a high ankle injury late in the Chiefs’ win against the Cleveland Browns last week.

Although an initial diagnosis claimed that Mahomes would be week-to-week with the injury, he was a full participant in Kansas City’s first practice of the week on Tuesday.

The fact that Mahomes not only practiced, but was a full participant on the first practice day of the week, certainly bodes well for his status on Saturday, even if the Chiefs have another short week ahead of them.

Mahomes spoke about his mindset entering the week after practice on Tuesday.

“That’s the reason you play this game, is to push to play,” said Mahomes.

“If I feel like I can play and go out there and win a football game, I’ll play and if I don’t feel like that’s the best-case scenario, I’ll let guys like Carson (Wentz) play.” Related: Chiefs Cut CEH; What’s His Message to Fans?

Not only are things looking optimistic for Mahomes, but they’re also looking optimistic for a weapon that he hasn’t had all season.

Receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown, who recently had his practice window reopened, also practiced in full on Tuesday.

Brown has been on injured reserve all season with a shoulder injury, but if he continues to practice all week, he could make his season debut on Saturday with the playoffs quickly approaching.
