3 Former Celtics Identified as Possible Reunion Candidates

By
The Boston Celtics can target one of their former players as mid-season additions.

The Boston Celtics are 21-5 for the season and look like the championship favorites once again. Even though they are behind the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference standings right now, the Celtics are +200 favorites to win it all and an overwhelming -115 favorites to make the NBA Finals per FanDuel Sportsbook.

Despite their status as the team to beat, the Celtics are still looking for ways to improve the roster. Due to their limitations as a second-apron team per the new collective bargaining agreement, Boston can’t make a blockbuster trade. They also don’t need to. Instead, they will potentially look to fill their open 15th roster spot or move on from Jaden Springer to save some money.

The move they end up making could resemble the move they made in last season’s trade deadline when they acquired Xavier Tillman Sr. in exchange for second-round picks. NBC Sports Boston’s Chris Forsberg identified a few potential targets for the Celtics and it includes three former players: Daniel Theis, Javonte Green, and Guerschon Yabusele.

“Still there are plenty of old friends who could be available around the league. Daniel Theis and Javonte Green are on minimum deals in New Orleans. Could you call Philly about Guerschon Yabusele if the Sixers decide to punt on the season.”

– Chris Forsberg, Celtics insider

Theis and Green are with the New Orleans Pelicans who are reportedly willing to trade everyone on their after their disastrous 5-22 start. Theis could be a deep bench option in the frontcourt rotation while Green could provide some defensive chops on the wing, in a role similar to Oshae Brissett’s last season.

Yabusele is arguably the most intriguing option there. The former first-round pick of the Celtics has blossomed into a three-and-D big who can guard multiple positions. It is unclear whether the Sixers are going to pull the plug on their season but if they do, the Celtics should certainly inquire.
