The Chiefs have officially made the most stunning roster move of their 2024 season, releasing former first-round RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire in a shocking decision with the playoffs fast approaching.
Considering the issues that Edwards-Helaire dealt with in the offseason with his PTSD symptoms, an outright release comes as a major surprise.
Kansas City has a full running back rotation and someone had to go. Edwards-Helaire wasn’t the expected player to be released, yet it seems another move may be coming.
Brett Veach and Andy Reid wouldn’t have done this unless they needed the roster space.
Whether that means Marquise “Hollywood” Brown is coming back or someone else remains to be seen. Either way, the Chiefs now have an available spot.
Chiefs Shockingly Release RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire
During his time with the franchise, Edwards-Helaire rushed 441 times for 1,845 yards and 12 TDs while adding 89 catches for 785 yards and another seven scores.
He’s the first draft pick legendary general manager Brett Veach ever made, illustrating the impact he had and the bridge he’s become between the old Chiefs and new ones.
Even though Edwards-Helaire proved to be a poor selection relative to the value, he should be fondly remembered.
The Super Bowl champion now has a new opportunity to find a home. Hopefully, he’ll overcome the PTSD issues that derailed his 2024 campaign.
No Chiefs fan should harbor any ill-will towards the former LSU star. Instead, we should all remember him for the valuable contributions he made to the city.
This is a changing of the guard and means the organization believes in Isiah Pacheco, Kareem Hunt, Carson Steele, and Samaje Perine.
Edwards-Helaire didn’t play a down this season for good reason, yet he’s still one of the more important players during Patrick Mahomes’ career.
All of Chiefs Kingdom wishes Edwards-Helaire the best. He was an excellent addition to the roster and leaves a champion.
