Taylor Swift had a successful 2024, having received multiple awards and releasing a new album. On February 4, 2024, Swift won her fourth Album of the Year Grammy Award for her work in the 2022 album, Midnights. Her win made her the artist with the most number of AOTY awards of all time, tied with Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder, and Paul Simon.

During her 2024 Grammy acceptance speech, Taylor Swift announced the release of her eleventh studio album, The Tortured Poets Department. The album was released in two parts on April 19, 2024, as the pop star surprised her fans with several new songs after dropping the main album. The songs were put together in The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology.

Upon release, the album broke multiple sales and streaming records. The Tortured Poets Department spent 16 weeks atop the Billboard Hot 200 in the United States. Swift also became the only artist to occupy the top 14 spots of the US Billboard Hot 100, beginning with Fortnight.

Further, Taylor Swift concluded her record-breaking Eras Tour in Vancouver, Canada, on December 8, 2024. The tour, which began in March 2023, spanned 149 concerts in 50 cities and five continents. It was a special tour that featured 18 years of Swift’s music and had an ‘era’ or segment dedicated to each of her albums. In May 2024, she added a new segment dedicated to her newly released album, The Tortured Poets Department.

Another highlight of 2024 for Taylor Swift was the release of The Eras Tour Book on November 30. The book was released exclusively on Target and included multiple visual highlights from Swift’s tour. The nonfiction book includes over 500 pictures, including unseen behind-the-scenes images.

Upon release, the book became the number two nonfiction debut of all time, as per data shared by Circana Bookscan. As per Circana, the book sold 814,000 copies in its first week and second only to Barrack Obama’s 2020 memoir, A Promised Land.

Moving to 2025, Taylor Swift has yet to announce her next album. Swifties (the popstar’s fandom) eagerly await her to announce the release of her much-awaited rerecording of her 2017 album, Reputationand her eponymous debut album.

Premier League forced to release new Tottenham VAR statement after Bournemouth controversy cost them to drop points vs Spurs

The Premier League has provided an official explanation regarding AFC Bournemouth’s disallowed goal during their clash with Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon.Andoni Iraola’s side had been the more dominant team in the first half and deservedly went into the break with a 1-0 lead, courtesy of James Tavernier’s determined finish. Bournemouth then believed they had extended their advantage just six minutes into the second half when Justin Kluivert produced a stunning finish at the end of a swift counterattack. However, the celebrations were cut short as VAR intervened, ultimately disallowing the goal and awarding Spurs a free-kick instead.Shortly after the incident, the Premier League released a statement clarifying the reasoning behind the decision.“VAR checked the referee’s call of goal and established that [Antoine] Semenyo was in an offside position in the build-up and recommended that the goal was disallowed,” the statement read. While the decision itself was not particularly controversial upon review, it became a topic of debate due to the assistant referee’s failure to flag the offside infringement in real time. In recent seasons, there has been growing concern among managers regarding the practice of delaying offside calls, as it can lead to unnecessary injuries when play is allowed to continue.Despite the setback, Bournemouth did not let the disappointment affect them and eventually doubled their lead in the 65th minute through Evanilson. However, Tottenham responded almost immediately, showcasing their resilience. Just two minutes later, Pape Matar Sarr reduced the deficit, injecting fresh energy into Ange Postecoglou’s team. The drama continued as Spurs pressed for an equalizer, and their persistence paid off when Kepa Arrizabalaga brought down Son Heung-min inside the penalty area. The South Korean forward confidently stepped up to take the spot-kick, calmly dispatching it past Arrizabalaga to complete the comeback and ensure the match ended in a 2-2 draw. With the hard-fought point secured, Tottenham now turn their attention to a crucial week ahead. They will face AZ Alkmaar in the second leg of their Europa League tie, aiming to progress further in the competition. Following that, Postecoglou’s side will travel to Fulham for their final Premier League fixture before the international break, a match that could prove significant in their push for European qualification. As Spurs prepare for these pivotal fixtures, the Bournemouth clash serves as another reminder of the fine margins in the Premier League and the increasing influence of VAR in shaping crucial moments in matches.
