Manchester United are looking for a new manager after Erik ten Hag’s dismissal at Old Trafford.
The United manager appeared to be leaving the club in the summer after the Reds finished seventh in the Premier League. However, a victory against Manchester City in the FA Cup final clinched Europa League football and gave Ten Hag a reprieve.
Despite vocal encouragement from Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Dan Ashworth, and Omar Berrada, Ten Hag’s career at the club appeared to be coming to an end when the Reds suffered severe defeats to Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur. He departs United in 14th place in the standings, having won only three of their last nine games following the weekend’s draw with West Ham.
Ineos will now have to find a suitable successor. Ruud van Nistelrooy, who previously served as Ten Hag’s assistant, will take over as temporary head coach while a permanent replacement is found.
Ratcliffe’s first concern will be the cost of finding a long-term successor for Ten Hag. United are not in a position to invest a large chunk of money on a new manager since they are still trying to balance the books after years of expenditure.
