TRADE RUMORS: Mets Showing Interest in 2 Dodgers Free Agents Following Juan Soto Signing

The dust has barely settled from Sunday night’s historical announcement of Juan Soto to the New York Mets for 15 years and $765 million.

Hours later, the Mets are reportedly checking in on two of the Los Angeles Dodgers’ free agents.

According to Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon of The Athletic, if the Mets don’t re-sign Sean Manaea, the possible alternatives include right-handers Jack Flaherty and Walker Buehler.

In 2024, Jack Flaherty posted a 13-7 record with a 3.17 ERA, spending the season with both the Detroit Tigers and Los Angeles Dodgers. According to Rosenthal and Sammon, he is seeking a multi-year contract.

Seven players from the Dodgers’ 2024 roster are now free agents, including three starting pitchers: Clayton Kershaw, Walker Buehler, and Jack Flaherty. While Kershaw’s return to Los Angeles is already assured, Japanese free agent Roki Sasaki was officially posted Tuesday morning, and Blake Snell was added to the rotation, meaning either Flaherty or Buehler could be the odd man out.

The Dodgers opted not to extend a qualifying offer to Buehler allowing him to become a free agent for the first time in his professional career. However, the team is still interested in bringing him back.

President of baseball operations Andrew Friedman met with members of the media when Snell was introduced at Dodger Stadium and had the following to say about the club’s free agents which include three starting pitchers:

“We’ve had different conversations with our own guys. From our standpoint, throughout it, the only thing we can control is being honest and having conversations with those guys,” president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said when asked about the status of current Dodgers free agents.

“We have a lot of respect for them. They’ve put themselves in this position and they deserve the right to figure out what’s best for them and their family.

The only thing we can control is being honest.

“So from our standpoint, stepping away from specific free agents, we’re still focused on what we can do to get better and improve our chances of winning a World Series in 2025. We’ll continue to talk through trade stuff and free agents, and figure out what potentially lines up.”

Los Angeles re-signed reliever Blake Treinen to a two-year deal Sunday night and should turn to outfielder Teoscar Hernández next with utility man Kiké Hernández in the hole. Reliever Joe Kelly is also available.
