Chiefs make 2 roster moves — and elevate 2 players — before Chargers game

Kansas City placed a veteran wideout on injured reserve, replacing him with a second-year practice squad player.

On Saturday, the Kansas City Chiefs used their official X account to announce two roster moves, along with the elevation of two practice squad players for the team’s Week 14 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers on “Sunday Night Football.”

Wide receiver Mecole Hardman — who had been listed as questionable for Sunday’s game after suddenly being held out of practice on Friday — has been placed on the team’s Reserve/Injured list.

“His knee locked up on him,” said head coach Andy Reid of Hardman when he met with reporters on Friday afternoon, “so we’re evaluating it right now. This was after — right after our meeting — before we got on the field. So, we’ll just see where he’s at with that.”

Hardman must miss at least four games before he will be eligible to return — meaning the earliest he could be back is the Week 18 game against the Denver Broncos.

To fill Hardman’s roster spot, the Chiefs have activated wide receiver Nikko Remigio to the 53-man roster. We already know that special teams coordinator Dave Toub likes the second-year wideout as a returner.

“I mean, Nico did a great job,” said Toub after Kansas City’s second preseason game last August. “I’d be pounding the table for that guy; I love him.”

So it’s pretty likely that Remigio will not only take Hardman’s roster spot but also his role: a returner who occasionally gets an offensive snap.

The team also elevated practice squad linebacker Swayze Bozeman and tight end Baylor Cupp for Sunday night’s game. Both of them will automatically be returned to the practice squad on Monday.

Remigio, Bozeman and Cupp will all be dressing for their very first NFL game.
