The Yankees seem reluctant to take many risks with new faces and will target players who are already part of the Bronx family.
The Yankees have been one of the teams at the center of attention during the MLB offseason. The free-agent market seems somewhat diverse for the Bombers, but they appear to want to go with what’s familiar, as is the case with veteran reliever Tommy Kahnle.
According to Dan Martin of the New York Post, the New York team is interested in reuniting with pitcher Tommy Kahnle, along with the veteran, with the purpose of reaching an agreement and having his arm return to the bullpen. This would be the fourth time the Yankees reacquire Kahnle.
The organization originally selected him in the fifth round of the 2010 MLB Draft. They signed him after he spent the first two seasons of his career pitching for the Rockies and White Sox, and then re-signed him after the 2022 season with the Dodgers.
Kahnle missed playing time due to shoulder injuries in each of the last two seasons, but was relatively productive while healthy, posting a combined ERA of 2.38 and a WHIP of 1.12 while striking out 94 batters in 92 appearances.
The Yankees will likely look to add several relievers this offseason, as only Luke Weaver, Ian Hamilton, and Jake Cousins remained from their bullpen last season.
