Australia’s Josh Giddey posted his first triple double for the Chicago Bulls in a 128-102 rout of the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday (AEDT).

The Boomers star went off for 20 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists as the home team made short work of a Nets squad missing injured Aussie Ben Simmons (knee).

The Bulls themselves were without injured guard Coby White (ankle) and Giddey stepped up to fill the offensive void.

Giddey had 11 triple doubles for the Oklahoma City Thunder before being traded to the Bulls, who improved to a 9-13 record.

“A really good all around game for Josh Giddey,” Bulls commentator Adam Amin said.

“I know he hasn’t shot the ball well tonight, so maybe that’s the one thing you look at – one from eight from three point range.

“That being said, we’ve always talked about Josh’s defence – and he’s not going to be an ‘all NBA’ calibre defender – but I think his engagement on the defensive end has been much improved.

“And on some nights, he has been much better defensively because of it.”

Nikola Vucevic had 21 points and 10 rebounds for Chicago, which had lost three of their previous four games.

Rookie Matas Buzelis scored 20 points on seven of 10 shooting, and Zach LaVine finished with 18.

Brooklyn lost its third consecutive game – all in the last four days.

Dariq Whitehead scored 18 points for the Nets, and Dennis Schroder had 16 points and 10 assists.

The Bulls started to pull away in the third quarter, outscoring the Nets 36-22 in the period.

Buzelis’ basket off a pass from Giddey made it 92-72 going into the fourth quarter.

The Bulls play again on Friday (AEDT) against the San Antonio Spurs before backing up against the Indiana Pacers on Saturday.

They hope to have White back soon from his sprain.

“We don’t feel like it’s too severe, but certainly he was pretty sore yesterday and today,” Chicago coach Billy Donovan said.

“So I think with this game we’ll probably have a better idea having two days before we go into that back to back. But we don’t feel like it’s anything too severe that’s going to keep him out very long.”
