BREAKING TRADE: Warriors have emerged as a strong suitor for Kyle Kuzma.

Despite riding a four-game losing streak, the Golden State Warriors are 12-7 and comfortably in the playoff picture in a crowded Western Conference. Last month, the Warriors lost De’Anthony Melton for the season to an ACL injury and are expected to trade his one-year contract away to add a healthy, winning player.

Assuming they add a draft pick to his expiring contract, any rebuilding team that doesn’t care to make the postseason this year will chomp at the bit to add him. With Steve Kerr implementing a unique 12 or 13-man rotation in most games, the Warriors can add any talent and build a lineup with that player.

While the Warriors have been linked to wings to replace Melton or centers to address their lack of size, Golden State could opt for experience. The Brooklyn Nets and Washington Wizards are reportedly looking to sell off all of their veterans to rebuild, and the Warriors could swing a deal for Kyle Kuzma, who is reportedly on their radar.

“Other teams who’ve kept tabs on Kuzma include the Bucks, Warriors, Lakers, Heat, and Cavaliers, HoopsHype has learned,” wrote Michael Scotto on Monday after listing the Dallas Mavericks, Indiana Pacers and Sacramento Kings as possible landing spots.

Kuzma is on a descending contract through 2028-29 and is only 29 years old. In 12 games this season he is averaging 15.8 points and 5.6 rebounds on inefficient shooting, but a part of that is his current situation in Washington.

Should Kuzma land in Golden State, it is expected that he would become a solid third or fourth option in the offense and slot into the different lineups Kerr has used.
