James Maddison is edging closer to making his comeback from a serious knee injury, giving supporters an encouraging look at his rehabilitation after recently returning to the pitch. The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder posted photos from his recovery process following surgery to repair a cruciate ligament injury.
Now 29, Maddison has progressed into the next phase of his recovery, stepping up to light training on the field and even taking shots at goal. His absence has been a significant setback for Spurs during a challenging season, with the club fighting to steer clear of relegation from the Premier League. His return could arrive at a crucial moment as the team looks to revive their fortunes.
In an update shared on social media, Maddison wrote: “Session six months post-ACL surgery. Working hard to be back,” while also teasing an upcoming video on his YouTube channel that documents his rehabilitation journey. The video is said to show everything from treatment sessions to running drills and shooting practice on the training ground.
Interim manager Igor Tudor also offered a positive update, confirming that Maddison has resumed working with the ball and is sprinting again. He suggested the playmaker could still return before the season concludes, describing his recovery as encouraging.
With the international break in progress, Tottenham’s battle for survival will restart on April 12 against Sunderland. Maddison has not featured in a competitive match since May, when he sustained the injury during a pre-season tour in South Korea.
Former Spurs manager Thomas Frank had earlier labeled the injury both disappointing and devastating, underlining how much the team would miss the influential midfielder. Maddison is now targeting a return in time to make an impact in Tottenham’s decisive final fixtures, which include away trips to Aston Villa and Chelsea, as well as a crucial showdown with fellow strugglers Wolverhampton Wanderers.
