The Kansas City Chiefs are 11-1 after escaping Black Friday with a win against the Las Vegas Raiders, and they are almost coasting into the #1 seed in the AFC as they seek to win a third-straight Super Bowl title. The Chiefs are winning close games and are causing their fans to bite their nails nearly clean off every single week, but the Chiefs are winning and that’s what matters.
This is a team that is considered by many to be underachieving in a lot of ways based on the talent on the roster, but it’s still a really good roster all around. Even with that in mind, there are a number of players that the Chiefs won’t be missing when they inevitably leave in 2025.
Which players are making it easy for the Chiefs to say goodbye in 2025?
3 Chiefs Who Won’t Be Tough to Let Go in 2025
1. Wanya Morris – OT
It might be a little bit of a hot take to say the Chiefs should give up on Wanya Morris after just his second NFL season, but the results have not been great. Chiefs fans have been joking on Twitter/X that Wanya Morris has single-handedly put a number of defensive players in the Pro Bowl this year.
On a more serious note, the way Morris has played this season is getting Patrick Mahomes decked far too often. There are free rushers coming at Mahomes on a consistent basis which has caused the team to sign veteran and former first-round pick DJ Humphries as a last-ditch effort to raise the floor of that left tackle position.
Although you don’t necessarily want to give up on players two years into a rookie deal, especially third-round picks, I don’t know that anyone in Chiefs Kingdom would have a difficult time saying goodbye to Wanya Morris in 2025.
2. Skyy Moore – WR
Instead of throwing former second-round pick Skyy Moore out there this season to see if he would sink or swim, we’ve seen the Kansas City Chiefs just absolutely move on from Moore.
To say this team won’t have a difficult time saying goodbye to Moore in 2025 might be an understatement. Moore likely couldn’t drum up even a decent trade market, and you can’t help but think the Chiefs are only keeping him around based on their draft grade on the guy at this point.
Moore has been active for just six of the Chiefs’ 12 games this year and he doesn’t have a single reception. He’s only played a total of 100 snaps, and 82 of them came on offense. When a young receiver who can’t get in the rotation or target share can’t contribute on special teams?
You’ve got a problem.
Moore was a second-round pick in 2022, so there will likely be teams out there that will have interest in bringing him in based on their draft grades back then, but that’s likely his best shot of sticking around at this point.
The Chiefs have oddly had a tough time finding receivers who can stick despite the wild success of their offense. Rashee Rice looked like a great pick for them and he’ll probably resume WR1 duties at some point, but otherwise, the Chiefs have had to bring in a lot of help from the outside to stabilize this position.
And that’s fine for this team’s context. With Patrick Mahomes at quarterback, you’re not necessarily worried about hit rate in the NFL Draft at receiver so much as making sure you have guys who can make plays. And DeAndre Hopkins is making plays. Noah Gray is having a bit of a breakout year alongside Travis Kelce at tight end.
The Chiefs have plenty going for them in the passing game but Skyy Moore isn’t a factor, and I don’t think that’s going to change in 2025.
3. Nazeeh Johnson – CB
One of the biggest areas of focus this offseason for the Kansas City Chiefs was the cornerback position. Of course, the Chiefs have one of the better corners in the game in Trent McDuffie, but due to their salary cap situation, they had to say goodbye to L’Jarius Sneed, who was unquestionably their best defensive back previously.
Debate a wall.
The Chiefs traded Sneed to the Tennessee Titans who then gave him a massive contract extension, but I’m sure Chiefs GM Brett Veach is kicking himself and wondering how he could have crunched the numbers differently in order to bring Sneed back, because Nazeeh Johnson is not cutting it.
If it weren’t for Wanya Morris at the left tackle position, Nazeeh Johnson might be public enemy number one in Chiefs Kingdom. The former 7th-round pick has allowed a QB rating into his coverage of 101.2 this season, the worst on the Chiefs at the cornerback position.
We’re likely going to see the Chiefs put a huge emphasis on the cornerback position in the 2025 offseason, whether through free agency, the NFL Draft, or both. They put some faith in their young guys this offseason but there wasn’t even really much clarity after the preseason outside of Trent McDuffie.
On Black Friday, we actually saw the Chiefs pull Johnson from the game in favor of Joshua Williams, so perhaps the Chiefs are internally already preparing to move on.
