Liverpool could face Manchester City on Sunday without six key players, following injuries sustained in their 2-0 win over Real Madrid on Wednesday.
Conor Bradley and Ibrahima Konate both picked up issues, with Konate later revealing on Instagram that he might be sidelined for an extended period due to a knee injury.
“Picking up this injury after such a great game is frustrating,” Konate wrote. “I’ll start my recovery now and promise to come back stronger.
Thank you for the amazing support at Anfield. Inshallah, we’ll keep pushing forward, and I’ll be supporting the team every step of the way.”
Bradley is suspected to have suffered a hamstring injury, potentially paving the way for Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez to step into the starting lineup.
Alexander-Arnold, who recently recovered from his own hamstring issue, was an unused substitute against Real Madrid. Meanwhile, Harvey Elliott, back from a fractured foot, has not played since late August.
Liverpool had hoped their injury list would ease after the November international break, with players like Elliott expected to return to team training.
Federico Chiesa has participated in parts of training sessions but remains unavailable, while Diogo Jota and Alisson Becker are also yet to fully recover from long-term injuries.
Kostas Tsimikas is sidelined with an ankle problem, leaving Jarell Quansah as the only senior defensive backup.
Despite the injuries, Liverpool have handled setbacks well this season compared to rivals like Manchester City and Arsenal, whose absences have garnered more attention.
Manager Arne Slot remains optimistic, emphasizing the squad’s depth and ability to adapt. “This happens throughout a season,” he said after losing Konate and Bradley midweek. “If they can’t play, someone else will step up, as they have all season.”
Slot noted that injuries only draw attention when results falter, praising his squad for maintaining form despite the absences. “We’re missing key players like Alisson, Jota, and Trent recently, but replacements have performed so well that people don’t talk about it,” he said.
Liverpool’s injury challenges persist, with Konate and Bradley joining the list as others like Chiesa, Alisson, and Jota near their return. As one player recovers, another seems to fall.
However, Slot remains hopeful his team will rise to the challenge on Sunday and keep injuries from dominating the narrative as they aim to maintain their Premier League lead.
