Exclusive: Ruben Amorim to Tottenham takes decisive twist

Ruben Amorim is not one of Tottenham’s main priorities if they need to appoint a new manager in the coming weeks, sources have told Football Insider.

A move for the former Manchester United boss is currently considered “unlikely,” with the nature of his departure from Old Trafford already deemed to be a “red flag” by the Spurs hierarchy.

Football Insider revealed on Sunday that Tottenham are accelerating their plans to potentially sack Frank in the coming days, with Amorim already being linked as an outside candidate to take the reins in his place.

The Portuguese is keen to avoid rushing back into management, especially in the Premier League, after he was shown the door at Old Trafford on 6 January.

Amorim exit row to ward off Tottenham

Amorim netted a £10million payout from Manchester United when they showed him the door earlier this month, but the circumstances surrounding that exit have seemingly set the alarm bells ringing.

The 40-year-old had his system and style of play heavily scrutinised during his time at Old Trafford, as his tactical stubbornness was pointed out on several occasions.

Ultimately, it was his falling out with recruitment chiefs Jason Wilcox and Omar Berrada that put the final nail in his coffin, and that looks set to be enough to ward Tottenham off any potential move for him.

Amorim strongly hinted at the row in public during his post-match press conference after his team’s draw at Leeds United on 4 January in a move that raised eyebrows across the league.

Tottenham are clearly put off by that saga, and are keen to explore other potential options as a result.

Tottenham sack decision to trigger chain of appointments

Football Insider revealed on Sunday that Crystal Palace are planning to offer Frank the chance to lead them forward from next season, if he is dismissed by Tottenham as expected.

Pressure has been mounting on the Dane with every passing game of late, and while he is set to take charge of Tuesday’s Champions League clash against Borussia Dortmund, the Spurs board are now weighing up their options over his future.

Oliver Glasner is a name who is on their radar after his exploits at Crystal Palace last season.

The Austrian led the Eagles to FA Cup glory and qualification for the UEFA Conference League last term, but will now leave upon the expiry of his contract in the summer.

With the South London outfit keen admirers of Frank from his time at Brentford, his sacking could spark a chain of appointments across the capital, and potentially even a direct swap between the two clubs.
