OFFCIAL: A 5-Year, $74 Million Contract is a Well-Deserved Reward for Tommy Edman

Dodgers Agree to Massive Contract Extension With Postseason Hero

He is staying in Los Angeles for the long term.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have agreed to a five-year, $74 million contract extension with utility player Tommy Edman. The deal will take place from the 2025 to 2029 with a sixth-year option in 2030.

Per ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the deal includes a $17 million signing bonus and money that will be deferred.

The Dodgers made the agreement with Edman official shortly after Passan reported it, posting the announcement to X.

Exactly four months after Edman was traded to the Dodgers from the St. Louis Cardinals, Edman is signing with the Dodgers for five more years.

One week ago, Jon Morosi of MLB Network reported that the Dodgers and Edman’s team were in preliminary talks for a contract extension.

Edman most recently signed with the Cardinals on a two-year, $16.5 million deal in Jan. 2024, and was not set to be a free agent until after the 2025 season.

The Dodgers have decided to lock Edman up in advance, and he is now cashing in on the biggest deal of his career.

The 2024 season proved to be a whirlwind for Edman, who had not even played a game when he was traded to the Dodgers.

Edman did not make his season debut until Aug. 19 — and did not hit his first home run of the season until September — but managed to solidify his value to the team during the postseason.

Edman shined for the Dodgers in the postseason, particularly the National League Championship Series against the New York Mets. During that series, Edman recorded 11 hits, five runs, one home run, and 11 RBIs, hitting his home run during Game 6 of the series to help clinch the Dodgers’ trip to the World Series.

Edman was named the NLCS MVP, and would go on to add five hits, six runs, one home run, and one RBI in the World Series victory over the New York Yankees.

The extension to Edman continues to add to the busiest week of the Dodgers’ offseason so far.

Even a national holiday in Thanksgiving can’t slow down the Dodgers’ aggressive pursuits and signings to top players. The Dodgers signed Cy Young award winner Blake Snell to a five-year, $182 million contract earlier this week.
