Fabrizio Romano has named Tottenham and another Premier League club as the ones with the keenest interest in an exciting 19-year-old winger.

The expectation among many is that Spurs will spend big money in January to add to their squad after what has been a chastening first half of the season.

Some big-name attackers have been linked with a move to N17 in the past week, including an exciting Bundesliga winger, who has scored seven goals and provided four assists across all competitions so far this campaign.

It has been reported that Spurs have held advanced talks over a deal for RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande, who is quickly forging a reputation as one of the best young players in German football.

Tottenham and Premier League rivals continue to watch Yan Diomande

Some journalists have suggested that Diomande is too ambitious a target for Spurs, but others have continued to claim that Tottenham are right in the thick of the race for the Leipzig star.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Spurs and Man United have been on a ‘mission’ to scout the Ivory Coast international over recent weeks.

When asked about Diomande, Romano told GiveMeSport: “I’m told there are several Premier League clubs following this boy. He’s playing for Red Bull Leipzig, doing very well, and also for the Ivory Coast at the AFCON.

“He’s a very talented winger with dribbling and with pace. He’s a very good player, very good talent, very interesting, with big potential.”

“For young man Diomande, what I can tell you is that among many clubs, it’s not only about these two. But among many clubs, recently Manchester United and Tottenham were on a mission to scout this boy.”

Do Spurs have the financial muscle to land Diomande?

It has been widely reported that Leipzig are demanding a whopping €100m (£87m) for Diomande in January.

If Tottenham pay that, it would make the 19-year-old comfortably the North London club’s record signing, beating out the £65m they paid to land Dominic Solanke.

It was recently reported by The Sun that Thomas Frank will be handed a £150m transfer war chest for January, which suggests that the Lilywhites do have the means to pull off the deal.
