Julian Alvarez has confirmed that he is fully aware of the ongoing speculation surrounding his future at Atletico Madrid, including reports linking him with Liverpool. While Barcelona have frequently been mentioned as admirers of the former Manchester City forward, Liverpool were also credited with interest earlier in the summer.
Ultimately, the Merseyside club chose a different path in the transfer market, completing deals for Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike instead of pursuing Alvarez. Even so, questions continue to surface about how long the Argentine international will remain in Madrid.
Speaking to Marca, Alvarez made it clear that the constant rumors have not unsettled him. He explained that while he does not actively follow the speculation, he is conscious of what is being said, largely because of its widespread presence on social media. According to him, much of the noise exists online rather than reflecting the reality of the situation behind the scenes.
Alvarez stressed that his attention is firmly fixed on the current campaign with Atletico Madrid. His priority, he said, is to focus on personal development, contribute to the team’s objectives, and continue striving for success with the club.
His agent, Fernando Hidalgo, also moved to clarify the situation shortly after the summer transfer window closed. In an interview with Eram News, Hidalgo dismissed claims of interest from Liverpool, stating that no official offers were made for Alvarez last season. He further explained that there were no approaches during the most recent window either, as Atletico Madrid had no intention of selling the player, leaving no room for negotiations.
The forward later revisited the topic at the start of October, reiterating his calm stance on the matter in comments to ESPN. He acknowledged that speculation is a constant part of football but emphasized that his focus remains on improving each day, supporting his teammates, and helping Atletico win matches. In his view, discussions on social media carry little significance.
Alvarez’s importance to the team was underlined once again following Atletico’s dramatic 3-2 victory over PSV. Head coach Diego Simeone praised the striker’s impact, describing him as a decisive player capable of changing games with moments of brilliance. Simeone highlighted Alvarez’s work rate, movement, and individual quality, noting how effectively he seized his opportunity on the night. The coach also commended Alex Sorloth for his unselfish play in setting up Alvarez’s opening goal, calling it a fine example of teamwork.
With strong performances and unwavering focus, Alvarez continues to reinforce his value to Atletico Madrid, even as transfer speculation swirls around him
