Yankees need Alcantara to even things up in the AL East.

Matthew Sookram of Jays Journal reported on the need for the Yankees to add more firepower in their rotation. They are falling behind in the rotation rankings in the division. With the Red Sox having by far the best rotation, and with Cease, the Blue Jays are firmly in second place. An addition of Alcantara will help with that in a big way. Ex-GM Jim Bowden explained a good scenario for the Yankees.”I also think Sandy Alcanatara of the Marlins has a legitimate shot of getting traded to the New York Yankees. I know they’ve had a lot of discussions. Think of this for a minute… [New York] could sign Kyle Tucker in free agency, and then trade Spencer Jones for Alcantara.”-Bowden
Jones is the Yankees top prospect, but if they can sign Tucker, it allowed to trade Jones for a pitcher, which they desperately need more, than another outfielder.
It’s still a risk as Alcantara hasn’t been the same since his Tommy John surgery, but he is building his velocity back up and could return to his old form.
“For the Yankees though, who have gone 16 years without winning a championship, that risk should be worth it. If Alcantara regains his Cy Young form, lining him up in a rotation that already includes Max Fried, Carlos Rodon and eventually Gerrit Cole, the Yankees would at the very least, be keeping pace with what the Blue Jays and the Red Sox have done so far with their starting rotation heading into 2026.”-Sookram
