Thanks to The Tortured Poets Department, the US pop superstar triumphed in a very competitive category that also featured Ariana Grande (Eternal Sunshine), Billie Eilish (Hit Me Hard and Soft), Charli XCX (BRAT), and many more. Most Popular International Artist was one of several awards open to public voting at this year’s ARIA Awards.

Swift’s 11th studio album was a commercial success around the world including in Australia, where it topped the ARIA Albums Chart.

Released in April, The Tortured Poets Department reunited Swift with both Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner. The album explored Swift’s most recent relationships as well as her own public image. It featured key collaborations with Post Malone (“Fortnight”) and Florence and the Machine (“Florida!!!”).

Swift announced the album at the Grammy Awards in February, while accepting the award for Best Pop Vocal Album. It continued a hot streak for Taylor Swift, who has released four albums of new music in the last four years. Since 2021, she has also released four re-recorded versions of the albums she released with Big Machine Records.

Elsewhere at the 2024 ARIA Awards, which took place tonight (November 20th) at Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion, indie-pop duo Royel Otis were given the award for Best Group.

Best Pop Release went to Troye Sivan for his blockbuster album Something to Give Each Other, while Dom Dolla won Best Dance / Electronic Release for “Saving Up”.

Fresh from appearing at Rolling Stone House at SXSW Sydney last month, rising indie rock band Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers won the Michael Gudinski Breakthrough Artist Award, despite being up against 3%, Becca Hatch, Kita Alexander, and Sycco.
