Mets, kèm bản Anh & Việt: SMALL MOVES, BIG IMPACT: The 5 most interesting under-the-radar roster additions the New York Mets have made this offseason — subtle tweaks that could secretly reshape the entire year..ll

Tampa Bay Rays v Chicago White Sox

The MLB offseason is so young it hasn’t even begun to eat solids. After Thanksgiving is when movement seems to truly pick up. So far, we’ve seen the New York Mets quietly add to their organization with waiver claims and lower level free agent signings before the big explosion of trading Brandon Nimmo to the Texas Rangers for Marcus Semien.

Semien is the headliner addition to begin what already feels like a different kind of winter. Meanwhile, the rest of the Mets roster has some new faces who might appear in a half-dozen games at best. Among them, these three are the most interesting.

1) Joey Gerber

A player for cash trade brought Joey Gerber to the Mets. The 28-year-old righty was DFA’d by the Tampa Bay Rays prior to the deal. He has struggled to prevent runs in Triple-A, owning a 5.65 ERA in 57.1 innings of work.

Why does he make the list? A nice 3.6 BB/9 rate in Triple-A and 10.8 K/9 suggests there is something to work with. He is getting hit regularly, owning a hit rate of 10 per 9 innings. Home runs have gotten the best of him with dingers coming at a rate of 1.7 per 9.

As an optional reliever, the Mets could and have done worse in the past. He has a 3.60 ERA in 20 MLB innings. It’s significantly different than what the results have been one level down in the minor leagues.

We can’t even consider him a Four-A player because he hasn’t done well in Triple-A. He’s in some weird area of unpredictability. He should only get a handful of chances in 2026 for the Mets. Consider him Tyler Zuber retaliation for all of the grief he gave the Mets organization after being acquired at the 2024 trade deadline.
