Jorge Valdano analysed Real Madrid’s current problems in midfield, focusing on the lack of rhythm and control the team is showing during its poor run of results. Speaking on Movistar+, Valdano said: “They still cannot find, in the middle of the pitch, players who give the team clarity and fluency.”
Valdano has made similar assessments in previous interviews, noting that Real Madrid’s midfield often “thinks slowly” and struggles to accelerate play against organised defensive blocks. His view is that Madrid’s possession sequences lack the speed and precision needed to support Xabi Alonso’s positional ideas.
The midfield rotation has changed frequently in recent weeks due to form, physical issues, and Alonso’s attempts to find balance. But Valdano’s point is that the problem is not simply personnel; it is the overall tempo and decision-making in the center of the pitch.
