Arsenal right-back Jurrien Timber delivered his best performance of the Champions League campaign against Bayern Munich on Wednesday.
The Netherlands international has been the Gunners’ undisputed starter at right-back ahead of Ben White this term. He produced another top-notch display against the German champions.
Timber was not at his vintage best with his distribution, but he was excellent in every other attribute. The Dutchman won an impressive seven out of eight duels contested with four recoveries.
The 24-year-old also won 100 percent of his tackles (2/2) and most importantly, broke the deadlock with a superb headed goal from a Bukayo Saka corner in the 22nd minute.
The ÂŁ52 million-rated star has developed into a fabulous right-back during his time at Arsenal. He has registered five goal contributions, just one less than he managed throughout last term.
Manchester United legend Gary Neville recently said that he is the best right-back in the Premier League. Timber certainly lived up to the praise with a superb all-round performance.
It was undoubtedly his best showing of the European campaign, in our opinion. Declan Rice was adjudged the man of the match, but the award could have easily gone to Timber.
The Dutchman needs to replicate the display when the Gunners take on Chelsea in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
The Blues recently beat Barcelona by a convincing 3-0 scoreline in the Champions League at home. The west London outfit have plenty of quick forwards, and Arsenal must be vigilant at the back.
Timber could come up against either Alejandro Garnacho or Jamie Gittens. The Dutchman will no doubt relish the challenge of winning the battle while linking up with Bukayo Saka higher up the field.
Arsenal are presently six points ahead of second-placed Chelsea in the league standings. They could extend their lead to seven points or even more with a victory over the Blues on the road.
