TRADE CHAOS ALERT: Jeff Teague stumbles over the glaring dilemma in his Tyler Herro-to-Bucks pitch, leaving analysts and fans shaking their heads in disbelief. What was supposed to be a smooth trade discussion explodes into controversy, as every overlooked detail now fuels heated debates across the league. And just when you think it’s settled, one misstep reminds everyone — even the pros can trip over the obvious..ll

How Tyler Herro Is Preparing For The 2024-25 NBA Season

Former NBA All-Star Jeff Teague recently pitched Tyler Herro as a trade target for the Bucks on his Club 520 podcast, but he proposed a very meager return centered around Bobby Portis. It would be a steal for the Bucks and give them another source of consistent offense outside of Giannis Antetokounmpo. But the Heat would not even entertain a deal in which the main return is Bobby Portis, of all players.

“I think they need to trade him to Milwaukee, bro… We would take a Bobby Portis and something else. He a Heat kind of guy.”

The Heat have no interest in Bobby Portis

Clearly, the trade proposal was poorly thought out, but it’s still worth emphasizing how impossible this deal is. Herro was an All-Star just last season, and Portis has been a disappointing role player this season. Portis has not provided many strengths this season, as his scoring efficiency has gone down, and even his typically strong rebounding has regressed.

Meanwhile, Herro would provide the Bucks with the secondary scorer and creator they are so desperately missing. Although Ryan Rollins has taken steps to fill that role, he is still far from an All-Star option. Herro averaged 24 points per game last season as the Heat’s primary option and can instantly boost the Bucks’ offense.

Herro’s shooting, especially off the dribble, makes him a premier scoring threat in the league. His efficiency last season was very impressive – 47 percent from the field, 38 from from three (on nine attempts per game!) and 88 percent from the free throw line. He proved capable of creating his own shot without the best offensive teammates, and he would fare even better on the Milwaukee Bucks.

With Giannis drawing the defense’s attention and shooters at every other position, Herro’s job would be relatively easy compared to his role on the Heat.

However, Herro’s value has come into question as the Heat find success without him. They are currently 10-6, sitting in fifth in the East with an egalitarian offensive system. Rather than relying on any one ball handler to dominate possessions, the Heat are spreading opportunities among their entire roster and drastically reducing their pick-and-roll possessions. It doesn’t fit Herro’s playstyle well, and he could find himself on the trading block when he returns from injury.

But Herro is sure to fetch more tantalizing offers than Bobby Portis and mediocre draft capital if the Heat put him on the trade market. In fact, the Heat have been reluctant to trade away Herro even for true superstars in the past. They’re unlikely to dramatically reduce his trade value now that he’s actually living up to his potential and making All-Star games.

While Herro might love the idea of returning home to Milwaukee and playing next to Giannis, the Bucks simply don’t have the assets to get a player of his caliber.
