The writing is on the wall between the Miami Dolphins and Tua Tagovailoa, with the general manager who extended the former fifth overall pick already out the door.

Tagovailoa, who leads the league with 13 interceptions, is likely on his way out of Miami after a regime change in the offseason. But if the Dolphins move on from their longtime quarterback, who could be in line to replace him?

Miami did draft former Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers in the seventh round of this past year’s draft, but he may be too raw to be thrown out as the starter. Could the Dolphins look to acquire a veteran to lead them in 2026?

Dolphins linked to Kyler Murray as Tua Tagovailoa replacement

ESPN analysts Jeremy Fowler and Dan Graziano linked Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray as a potential replacement for Tagovailoa, as Murray himself has been rumored to be on his way out of town.

“I’d add Miami to that list if it gets to the end of the season and doesn’t feel convinced Tua Tagovailoa is its long-term quarterback, which is certainly possible,” said Graziano.

“I guess we could throw Carolina in for similar reasons if Bryce Young doesn’t turn things around. Most people I talk to about the Murray situation doubt that the Cardinals will be able to trade that contract, which means he’d likely be released before that 2027 money triggers next March.”

Murray being released would be even better news for Miami, as he would likely sign for less money on a prove-it deal similar to how Russell Wilson has done since being cut by the Denver Broncos.

Who knows who the Dolphins’ head coach will be in 2026, but if Mike McDaniel could get his hands on Murray, he may be able to take his game to another level.
