Warriors coach Steve Kerr compares Roger Federer to Stephen Curry

The San Antonio Spurs saw the end of their three-game winning streak on Wednesday, coming up short against the desperate Golden State Warriors with a 125-120 loss.

But despite the defeat, the Spurs can take pride in the intriguing tribute offered by Steve Kerr to a franchise legend.

Following the game, Kerr was asked about his thoughts on Stephen Curry’s huge 46-point performance. The Warriors head coach initially said it was just “routine” for the superstar guard but quickly withdrew the comment when he learned it was Curry’s 73rd career 40-point game.

Kerr went on to share insightful words about Curry’s importance to the Warriors franchise, ultimately comparing him to what Tim Duncan has been for the Spurs.

“When you have the privilege of watching Steph for 11-plus years like I have, you get used to this. He’s the reason this whole thing has happened. You know, he’s our Tim Duncan — he’s the sun in our solar system,” Kerr said in his presser.

“He’s just such an incredible player and teammate, and it’s great to see him back out there.”

Kerr’s quote certainly revolved around Curry. But at the same time, it served as a huge compliment and acknowledgment of Duncan’s legacy.

Curry stands as the foundation of the Warriors organization, just as Duncan was for the Spurs. Both all-time greats have led their respective franchises to sustained success, but Kerr’s decision to use Duncan as a comparison for Curry is undeniably a great honor for the retired San Antonio star.

Curry ushered the Warriors into a golden era with four championships since 2015, and that’s something that mirrors Duncan’s leadership in guiding the Spurs to five titles across three decades.

He might not be as flashy or outspoken as some other all-time greats, but it’s good to know that Duncan remains the gold standard of winning and of what a true franchise cornerstone should be.
