The Yankees fired longtime international scouting director Donny Rowland earlier this offseason, according to baseball reporter Francys Romero.

Brendan Kuty of The Athletic spoke to sources that pointed to the Yankees’ recent struggles to turn major signings into impact players as a contributing factor in the firing.

One of the more talked about of those cases was when they gave outfielder Jasson Domínguez an organization-record $5.1 million signing bonus. He began 2025 as a starter but finished as a part-time player, hitting .257 with 10 home runs and 47 RBI.

Rowland, 62, had been with the Yankees for 23 years, 15 of which he spent as their international scouting director.

According to Kuty, the Yankees are still in the process of choosing Rowland’s replacement.
