Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs didn’t enter their bye week the way they would have hoped, falling to 5-4 on the 2025 NFL season after a 28-21 loss to Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills in Week 9. Mahomes did not have his best performance, completing 15-of-34 passes for 250 yards and one interception, adding just another five yards on the ground.

Before Mahomes was winning Super Bowls in the NFL, he was a star quarterback for the Texas Tech Red Raiders. And in the latest edition of ESPN’s “College GameDay,” Mahomes appeared as the guest picker for the popular show, held in Lubbock, Texas, as No. 8 Texas Tech hosted the No. 7 BYU Cougars.

For the Big 12 matchup, the Red Raiders debuted their “Too Cold” uniform, designed by Adidas and Mahomes. The jersey features a primarily white design with red lettering and includes the Chiefs quarterback’s signature Gladiator logo. And Mahomes explained some of the motivation behind working with his former school.

“Texas Tech will always be home for me, so I’m proud to give back to the school and community who helped shape me on and off the field,” Mahomes said. “As the partnership with Adidas continues to evolve and expand, we’re redefining not just the future of Red Raider sports, but college athletics more widely.”

But Mahomes wasn’t done there. On Saturday, he and Adidas announced the second Team Mahomes, his “NIL cohort of Texas Tech student-athletes.” The newest group features several Red Raider standouts, including NiJaree Canady (softball), Sam Courtwright (soccer), Behren Morton (football), Christian Anderson (men’s basketball), and Malachi Snow (track and field).
