BRONX SHOCKWAVE BREWING: A $140M former MVP, World Series hero, and two-time All-Star is poised to walk, leaving Yankee Stadium’s legacy-laden hallways echoing with uncertainty — and whispers say this could be the move that forces a full-blown identity shakeup in the Bronx…ll

2024 World Series could see Yankees face Mets or DodgersThe New York Yankees had a disappointing season in the MLB Playoffs, exiting in the ALDS. Last season, the Yankees were just a couple of wins away from becoming World Series champions once again. This offseason will be crucial for the team, and one key name to watch is Cody Bellinger, who was expected to opt out of his contract.

“As expected, New York Yankees outfielder Cody Bellinger plans to opt out of his contract and become a free agent next month, a source told ESPN. Bellinger, 30, has a $25 million player option for next season. After a rebound season in his first year in pinstripes, he presumably will receive widespread interest in free agency — it should yield a lucrative multi-year contract,” ESPN’s Jorge Castillo wrote.

On Monday, Bellinger officially became a free agent when he opted out of his contract.

“Cody Bellinger has opted out,” MLB Network insider Jon Heyman wrote.

Bellinger is one of the most versatile players in all of MLB. He can play nearly anywhere on the field, making him a valuable asset for whichever team he signs with. As a former MVP and World Series champion, he brings both experience and leadership. He is also expected to command a substantial payday this winter.

“Predicted Contract: 5 years, $140 million. A $28 million AAV would give Bellinger a slight raise over the $26.6 million figure of his last contract, and while he might push for a sixth year, a five-year deal and an option for 2031 might be where his market ultimately lands,” Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter wrote.

It will be interesting to see where Bellinger ultimately lands. The Yankees remain in the mix, and a return to New York on a bigger deal is certainly possible.

The Yankees are expected to do everything they can to bring key pieces back to the Bronx, and Cody Bellinger is undoubtedly one of their most important targets.
