Tottenham Hotspur continue to deal with an ever-growing injury crisis, and Thomas Frank has now provided clarity on Lucas Bergvall’s condition after the midfielder suffered a concussion against Chelsea.
Spurs had only just received some positive news on the fitness front ahead of that match, with Cristian Romero, Destiny Udogie, and Wilson Odobert returning to the bench. But just seven minutes into the game, another blow arrived as Bergvall was forced off with a head injury.
The 19-year-old, who was making his first Premier League start since September, had to be withdrawn due to concussion protocols and played no further part in the match.
Thomas Frank issues Bergvall update
Speaking ahead of Tottenham’s Champions League fixture on Tuesday, Frank confirmed that Bergvall will be sidelined for the next two games.
While earlier reports suggested he could miss three matches — the UCL clash and two Premier League fixtures — Frank has clarified the situation, telling Football.London:
“He is out for the next two games now.”
Bergvall, last season’s Tottenham Player of the Year, has struggled to gain momentum under Frank, and this latest setback will only add to the frustration for the young Swede.
International break could offer relief
The two fixtures he will miss include Tuesday’s Champions League tie and this weekend’s Premier League clash against Manchester United. After that, club football pauses for the final international break of the year, giving Tottenham some much-needed recovery time as injuries continue to pile up.
With several key players already sidelined, the break may arrive at the perfect moment for Spurs.
