Mo Salah has hinted that he is more likely to leave Liverpool at the end of the season than sign a new contract.
Salah’s current deal runs until the summer of 2025, and reports indicate that negotiations with his agent, Ramy Abbas Issa, are ongoing.
The Egyptian forward is Liverpool’s highest-paid player, earning around £350,000 per week, plus bonuses.
In an interview shared by The Echo’s Paul Gorst after Liverpool’s 3-2 victory over Southampton, Salah admitted that he could depart the club, as no contract offer has been made yet.
“Well, we are almost in December and I haven’t received any offers yet to stay in the club, so I’m probably more out than in,” he said.
Salah expressed his love for the fans and the club, but emphasized that the decision is out of his hands. “As I said before, it is December and I haven’t received anything yet about my future. It’s disappointing, but we will see.”
Despite the uncertainty about his future, Salah is focused on the current season, aiming to win both the Premier League and Champions League.
“I’m not going to retire soon, so I’m just playing, focusing on the season, and trying to win the Premier League and hopefully the Champions League as well,” he added.
This comes amid similar contract situations for key teammates Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, both of whom are also set to leave when their contracts expire in 2025.
As the future of these key players hangs in the balance, questions are being raised about Liverpool’s approach to contract talks, especially with such an iconic figure in the club’s history.
Fans are wondering if the club will risk losing one of their best players for free in 2025 by not offering Salah the contract he deserves.
