Thomas Frank addresses awkward moment as footage emerges of Spurs stars’ snub

New footage has emerged of Thomas Frank being awkwardly ignored by two of his Tottenham players after a 1-0 defeat to Chelsea.

Spurs were booed off by their fans after they were beaten by their bitter London rivals on Saturday evening.

And while focus was on the poor performance from Frank’s side, as they only mustered three shots, a concerning moment occurred between the manager, Micky van de Ven and Djed Spence.

Van de Ven and Spence instantly headed for the tunnel after the full-time whistle, coming across Frank on the way.

But despite the Dane appearing to be talking to the pair, they completely snubbed their boss, walking straight past.

Spence waved his hands in the air, seemingly ranting to himself or Frank as he trudged off at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Meanwhile, Van de Ven didn’t even acknowledge his manager, going on to ignore another coach on the touchline too.

Frank was left standing on his own on the pitch, staring angrily back at his two defenders for a few seconds.

He then walked away to shake the hands of some Chelsea players and clap the fans remaining in the stands at full-time.

The Spurs manager was asked about the strange incident in his press conference, but he played it down.

“All the players are, of course, frustrated,” Frank said post-match.

“They would like to do well, they would like to win, they would like to perform well, so I understand that.

“I think it is about which is difficult to be consistent in good times and in bad times.

“That is why I went around to the fans as I did. It is more fun when we win, I can tell you that.

“I understand why you ask the question, but I think that is one of the small issues.

“We have Micky van de Ven and Djed Spence, who are doing everything they can.

“They perform very well so far this season, and everyone is frustrated.

“We do things in a different way, so I don’t think it is a big problem.”

What else did Frank say?

After discussing the incident between him, Van de Ven and Spence, Frank went on to speak about the boos his side received.

The Tottenham boss admitted that he understood why the fans were unhappy, saying: “Yes, 100 per cent. We all sense the frustration and the emotions. That is part of football. It is extremely painful.

“Of course, that is part of the job to face you guys [the media] now and answer the very good questions when you just are burning inside.

“And you like to find solutions, watch the game back and see what went wrong, but I think it’s about trying to stay calm.”

Frank continued: “In general, I think Chelsea were good and we were definitely second best. We performed badly. I think we lacked energy and intensity, and that freshness we didn’t have that.

“Then I think the high pressure they came with, I don’t think we solved it well enough even though we worked on it, so that we need to keep working on.”
