Former New York Yankees and Oakland A’s slugger Reggie Jackson hit 18 home runs in 318 postseason plate appearances. Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy has 15 homers in the postseason, in 323 plate appearances.
Should those statistics be given equal treatment on a World Series broadcast — or is further context necessary?
Jackson made it clear how he would answer the question. He slammed Davis’ comparison of Muncy’s 15 homers to those of Babe Ruth, who also slugged 15 in 167 career plate appearances in the World Series.
The guy b-casting now on World Series. What’s his name, I know Smoltzy. How’s he say Muncey has same postseasn HRs as Ruth??What r you talking about. Ruth hit 15 HRs, all World Series HRs, Mickey had 18 WS hrs If they’d played 4/5 series in those days like today, Babe and…

I think there’s a 3 gm a 5 gm and 2 7 game series That’s 22 games a year, not (7) your info is ?? and it’s all right there in front of you with someone else to look it up for ya.”
When is one player’s postseason home run total not comparable to another? It depends on who you ask.
Davis isn’t wrong. Ruth and Muncy hit 15 home runs in their postseason careers. There are a number of ways to caveat those statistics beyond what Jackson took time to recognize.
Ruth never had to face Black American or Latin American pitchers. Muncy’s teams never got to advance to the World Series directly — but he had just as much control over the playoff format, the number of teams in the league, and his opponents’ ethnic background as Ruth.
How much context does the average World Series viewer need? There’s no right or wrong answer, but Jackson certainly made his point of view clear.
