Coby White will be an unrestricted free agent this summer, and the Chicago Bulls need to pay him (or trade him), but he’s not the only one. They also need to worry about what they’re going to do with Ayo Dosunmu. He looks great to start the 2025-26 campaign, which makes Chicago’s decision-making process even more difficult.
In the Bulls’ game against the Atlanta Hawks on Monday night, Dosunmu churned out an elite performance off the pine. He ended the night with 21 points, three rebounds, and two assists while shooting 7-of-10 from the floor and 4-of-6 from beyond the three-point arc.
Chicago will have to make some tough decisions regarding who they want to pay this summer.
Why will Bulls need to pay Ayo Dosunmu?
Through the Bulls’ first three games of the year, in which Chicago is undefeated, Dosunmu has been awesome. He’s averaged 16.7 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists while shooting 55.9% from the floor and 60.0% from deep range on 5.0 three-point attempts per game.
He’s a perfect 3-and-D guard for the Bulls to either pair with Josh Giddey in the starting lineup or, as they have been doing this season, bring off the bench.
As for White, he’s emerged as a legitimate All-Star-caliber player for the Bulls for the past few years. He’s a very efficient scorer and can shoot from long range, too. Unfortunately, both he and Dosunmu will be free agents this summer.
Not only that, but they will both be unrestricted free agents, meaning they will be free to sign anywhere. The Bulls would have to beat out any offer they get on the open market.
And White and Dosunmu aren’t the only ones the Bulls will have to worry about keeping around this summer, either, especially if they want to keep their current core in place.
Nikola Vucevic, Zach Collins, Kevin Huerter, Jevon Carter, and Dalen Terry are all slated to hit free agency, too.
Perhaps that’s what the Bulls want: Flexibility over the summer to add players alongside Giddey, Matas Buzelis, and others. But Dosunmu and White should be two of the guys they want to keep around.
Chicago’s 3-0 start has been a surprise, and perhaps this will be the year when they manage to take a leap and make the playoffs. But once the offseason comes around, they’ll have to find a way to keep White and Dosunmu on board.
