The New York Yankees should be thought of as the frontrunner to retain their upcoming free agent outfielder, Cody Bellinger.
He is one of the several key decisions the Yankees’ front office executives will have to make. He’s an interesting free agent because it’s obvious he would like to stay with New York, and his swing and defense play so well in Yankee Stadium.
Cody Bellinger receives $168 million contract prediction.
According to MLB insider and The Athletic writer Jim Bowden, Cody Bellinger is predicted to receive a six-year, $168 million extension this offseason.
Bellinger can play defense at all three outfield spots and can play a sound first base. These factors may improve his market value, and he’s been an above-average hitter for three straight seasons.
In his first season in pinstripes, Bellinger smashed 29 homers, added 25 doubles, and drove in 98 runs.
Cody Bellinger is a Scott Boras client, and Boras is notorious for pulling players like Bellinger out of their current deals in search of a more lucrative deal. Bellinger would certainly be getting that in this case.
However, other teams may also make a run at the two-time All-Star and 2X Silver Slugger. Bowden also indicates that the Mets and Astros could be potential ‘best fits’ for Bellinger.
