Gary Neville Criticizes Key Liverpool Star After Disappointing Frankfurt Display

Former Manchester United defender and Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville has delivered a harsh verdict on one of Liverpool’s senior players following the club’s recent Champions League performance against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Speaking after the match, Neville didn’t hold back, suggesting that Liverpool made a mistake by keeping the player when his contract was nearing expiration.

“Thank goodness Slot didn’t start him, it would have been a huge disaster for Liverpool. They should have gotten rid of him when his contract was about to expire. The football has left him,” Neville stated bluntly.

The comments sparked immediate backlash from Liverpool supporters, many of whom took to social media to defend the player, calling Neville’s remarks disrespectful toward one of the club’s long-serving figures.

One fan wrote, “No way, we can’t treat one of our legends like this.” Another responded, “You should focus on your old club instead of criticizing Liverpool players.”

While Neville’s criticism may reflect growing frustrations over recent performances, it also reignites the debate over whether Liverpool’s reliance on experienced stars could be affecting their current form under Arne Slot.

The coming weeks will reveal whether the manager decides to persist with his veteran players — or begin a more ruthless transition toward the next generation at Anfield.
