Could the Philadelphia Eagles benefit from a Wyatt Teller trade? We break down whether they should sign the Browns All-Pro guard.

After finishing with the NFL’s second-best rushing offense last season, the Philadelphia Eagles have yet to get their ground game going in 2025.

Led by Saquon Barkley, Philly averaged 179.3 yards and 4.9 yards per carry last year. So far through seven games, the Eagles are netting 88.1 yards a game (30th) and a paltry 3.3 yards per rush (tied for last in the NFL).

Considering the 2-5 Cleveland Browns‘ current situation, Mike Jones of The Athletic thinks a player like right guard Wyatt Teller might be available via trade — and he thinks the Eagles would be wise to add him.

“The disappointing Browns could save some money against the cap by trading off the three-time Pro Bowl selection, who has voidable years left on his deal after this season,” Jones wrote on October 16. “Talented interior linemen are hard to come by and teams like the Eagles, Dallas Cowboys and Seattle Seahawks could use the help.”

A Closer Look at Teller’s 8-Year NFL Career

Eagles Encouraged to Add $56 Million Browns All-Pro to Help Saquon Barkley

GettyCleveland Browns guard Wyatt Teller was suggested as a trade target for the Philadelphia Eagles.

For nearly half a decade, Teller has been one of the NFL’s most physical and dependable interior linemen. Drafted in the fifth round by the Buffalo Bills in 2018 out of Virginia Tech, he started just seven games as a rookie before being traded to the Browns ahead of the 2019 season. Teller quickly earned a starting job and, by 2020, had developed into a cornerstone of Cleveland’s offensive line.

That 2020 season marked his breakout. Teller emerged as one of the best run-blocking guards in football, earning second-team All-Pro honors. He repeated as a second-team All-Pro in 2021 and was named to the Pro Bowl three straight years from 2021 to 2023. His calling card has always been brute strength and leverage — he’s a tone-setter who excels in gap schemes, consistently creating movement at the point of attack and pulling effectively in space.

He’s started over 70 games in his career, played more than 4,000 snaps, and has been a key reason why Cleveland routinely ranks among the top rushing teams in the NFL. While his pass protection is solid, it’s his run-blocking dominance that makes him such a difference-maker.

Heading into the final year of a four-year, $56.8 million extension signed in 2021, Teller’s future in Cleveland is uncertain. The Browns have invested heavily in interior line depth — drafting Michigan standout Zak Zinter and signing Teven Jenkins. Plus, with All-Pro Joel Bitonio entrenched on the left side and Ethan Pocic at center, they have the luxury of exploring trade options. Should the Eagles be interested?

Should a Trade for Cleveland Browns RG Wyatt Teller Interest the Philadelphia Eagles?

Right tackle Lane Johnson remains the anchor of Philly’s O-line, and Cam Jurgens is the team’s starting center, but left guard Landon Dickerson has been battling injuries this season, and Tyler Steen is in his first year as the Eagles’ RG. Adding a player of Teller’s caliber would likely send Steen to the bench. Is that something Philly should do, though?

The Eagles lean heavily on the run game, at the center of which is their famous (or infamous, depending on who you talk to) “tush push.” Teller would be an asset, to be sure, but would he be better than Steen? At run-blocking, maybe.

Teller’s 67.6 run-block grade from PFF is currently ranked 27th among all qualifying guards, while Steen’s 58.8 mark is ranked 59th. But Steen has a better pass-blocking grade (72.8, 18th) than Teller (52.1, 72nd). That’s a pretty noticeable drop-off.

Steen is also far cheaper. While Teller has cap hits of $14 million and $10 million in 2025 and 2026, Steen’s cap hits are $1.5 million and $1.8 million over the next two years. With the trade deadline two weeks away, something serious would have to go wrong with Steen for the Eagles to seriously consider a trade like this.
